The terrible pandemic known as the Coronavirus has changed the lives of many for the worse and has effected almost every aspect of life. One of these areas is something that is not essential, but however is something that many people all over the world hold close to their hearts and feel a strong connection to. This aspect is known as sports.
On a personal perspective I was never really that much of a watcher of sports except for a couple games of soccer, however my Dad and brothers are advocate watchers of soccer and to them not being able to watch the sport they love is very upsetting. At this time in the soccer world many important events were taking place or about to take place. All of the soccer leagues were wrapping up their seasons to see who will be victorious of each league. Also the notorious UEFA Champions league was in action and this is a huge upset for everyone due to the fact that this will name the sole champion of all the leagues combined. And finally the Euro was about to kick off. Although I am not as dedicated of a watcher as my Dad or brothers, the phrase of “You only miss it once its gone” really hits home for me. I miss seeing the champions being crowned, I miss watching rival teams and players play against each other, and I especially miss hearing my brothers and my Dad scream and cheer at the tv all the way from the other room
Sports really becomes a big part of my life when I talk about partaking in the action itself. Even though I never really watched that much sports I loved playing my sport, and that sport is soccer. Is very upsetting to think and now face reality that my team will not be able to participate in our spring season. This was a time period where, even though we were out of season, we would probably face the toughest teams all year. At this time we face top tier division 1 teams such as Hofstra, Stony Brook and much more. It shows us where we are at as a team and gives us a real test of our team and individual ability.
Talking about the sport I love on an individual level is really upsetting because of the simple fact that soccer has been a huge and if not one of the main aspects of my life since I was very little. Soccer is a sport that never goes out of season, so every year for the past 15 plus years of my life I’ve been playing soccer and now its suddenly being stripped away from me. To me soccer is such a freeing sport, where a person can experiment and come up with new ways to moves the ball across the field, and the feeling of winning a game brings upon feelings that are unexplainable.
Life without sports is not essential however to athletes it feels as though it is. But we do have to remember that this virus is affecting so many lives outside of sports and through this we have to thank God for more important things than sports such as family, friends and the gift of life. However, in this tough time we are only looking at things in the moment and must be able to view things from a bigger perspective. That is why real athletes will use this time to work at their sport individually and get better so that later on when their game they love continues, they will be able to show what they did have control of in the moment, to benefit themselves and trust the bigger picture.

What could have been a huge upset for the Panthers turned out to be a game about heart and a glorious win.
Adelphi took Pace on Wednesday Night at the the Adelphi Center for Recreation and Sports. With Adelphi trailing their first time at home this season, things were not looking so good for the Panthers. However, the great block by Edringer and the tie securing three pointer by Stephens comes through for the team to bring them into overtime.
With 15 seconds left in Overtime both Edringer and Murphy take free throws to heighten their lead for a win. As seconds remain in OT Pace tries a counter attempt at the basket but fails, leaving the game result of 63-59.
This win was huge for the Panthers. It secured them a win for the NE10 Southwest Division regular season title, something that has not been done since the 2016-2017 season. It also gave them an intangible win and that is heart and faith in their team even when they were trailing in the 3rd quarter.
Key player, Katie Murphy for the Panthers says that she fully “trust in her teammates and all of their abilities, and moving forward they need to keep on working with what their good at”
Adelphi’s head coach Traversi mentions that even when the score was down the team had that “Blind faith and that trust, and they had to find other ways to score”. She continues to say how “this game shows how big their hearts are” and she fully expects the team to do “fun things” in the future.
Next Adelphi takes on the University of New Haven. Hopefully they continue this winning momentum to bring them to another win.
Even without the home field advantage, Adelphi QB, Cameron Brown and team defeated New Haven 24-9. This now gives the Panthers a back to back win and certainly a positive start to the season with a 2-0 start to the season.
There are certainly quite a few new faces to Adelphi’s football program, however they already seem to be making quite an impact. Also some consistent faces are continually proving that they can get the job done.
It’s Brown’s time to shine for the Panthers and he certainly did by directing an 8 play, 73 yard drive that ended up with newbie, Paul Jones tacking on a touchdown for the Panthers to put them up 7-3 early on in the game. Jones has been pretty consistent as a Freshmen for his team , and despite his 3 fumbles this game, he managed to rush over 100 yards along with fellow freshman, Jimmy Roberts. Coach Smith also holds some high confidence in Jones stating, “Jones is my guy. I’m sticking with him no matter what. No questions asked.”.
The Adelphi Panthers proved that they will be having a good year. They have a powerhouse in the back with their defense only allowing 16 points thus far this season. Also records are already being set by the star kicker, Dave Owens. This game he kicked a 44 yard field goal and last week he tied the record for most field goals in a game.
Let’s hope this winning streak continues for the Adelphi Panthers. However, next game they will be on the road to face the #3 nationally ranked SNHU. Adelphi definitely wants to keep this winning streak up, but they most definitely want to break this 4 year losing streak against SNHU. Cameron Brown seems excited for the match saying, “New Hampshire is a good team. We’ll definitely be the underdogs going in. I’m excited
about the challenge.”. Who knows what the future holds for the Panthers, but they are off to a great start.
I have always been interested in the idea of sports and doing fun activities to keep my body fit and healthy. For this reason, the career that has always been in the back of my head was a physical education teacher, and my goal is to become a Phys Ed teacher in the future. With this career, I would not only be able to put the fun ways to stay fit and active into practice, but I would also be able to teach these ways to younger generations so that I could hopefully influence them.
Even though I have always wanted to become a phys ed teacher, I convinced myself out of that dream because I heard that it was a hard field to find a job in. So for the past year I spent my education and money on a field that I was not interested in whatsoever. Eventually I woke up and realized that if I wanted something bad enough I would have to work hard and find grit to stick with it no matter the difficulties I am faced with. So this semester I finally switched my major over to Phys Ed and now I am starting the path to my future career.
In order to achieve everything I want in this career, I would definitely have to work hard and separate myself from other candidates that are also trying to become Phys Ed teachers. I am hoping that the job outlook improves, but because the outlook is so bad as of now, I would really have to find that separation between other candidates fir the job. Some things I would try to achieve in order to separate myself would be to get the highest grades possible this way when push comes to shove I have the grades to make me look even better when hiring. Also I would want to do a lot of active volunteer participation into various events that are similar to the field of Phys Ed, so that I can put these services in my resume. Another big thing that I wish to strive for is connections and relationships. I am hoping that by going back to my old high school/middle school/elementary school, I can form bonds with the Phys Ed teachers there hoping for positive references when the hiring process starts.
I am a big believer in maximizing one’s efforts in order to gain and maintain separation from others. I believed in this philosophy in sports, in school and now I want to follow this same philosophy to use when I strive to reach my career goal in becoming a Phys Ed teacher. I am hoping that I can become a Phys Ed teacher right in my hometown in Sayville, NY. However, I would be willing to teach anywhere because I know that anything is an experience.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
