What could have been a huge upset for the Panthers turned out to be a game about heart and a glorious win.
Adelphi took Pace on Wednesday Night at the the Adelphi Center for Recreation and Sports. With Adelphi trailing their first time at home this season, things were not looking so good for the Panthers. However, the great block by Edringer and the tie securing three pointer by Stephens comes through for the team to bring them into overtime.
With 15 seconds left in Overtime both Edringer and Murphy take free throws to heighten their lead for a win. As seconds remain in OT Pace tries a counter attempt at the basket but fails, leaving the game result of 63-59.
This win was huge for the Panthers. It secured them a win for the NE10 Southwest Division regular season title, something that has not been done since the 2016-2017 season. It also gave them an intangible win and that is heart and faith in their team even when they were trailing in the 3rd quarter.
Key player, Katie Murphy for the Panthers says that she fully “trust in her teammates and all of their abilities, and moving forward they need to keep on working with what their good at”
Adelphi’s head coach Traversi mentions that even when the score was down the team had that “Blind faith and that trust, and they had to find other ways to score”. She continues to say how “this game shows how big their hearts are” and she fully expects the team to do “fun things” in the future.
Next Adelphi takes on the University of New Haven. Hopefully they continue this winning momentum to bring them to another win.
