Even without the home field advantage, Adelphi QB, Cameron Brown and team defeated New Haven 24-9. This now gives the Panthers a back to back win and certainly a positive start to the season with a 2-0 start to the season.
There are certainly quite a few new faces to Adelphi’s football program, however they already seem to be making quite an impact. Also some consistent faces are continually proving that they can get the job done.
It’s Brown’s time to shine for the Panthers and he certainly did by directing an 8 play, 73 yard drive that ended up with newbie, Paul Jones tacking on a touchdown for the Panthers to put them up 7-3 early on in the game. Jones has been pretty consistent as a Freshmen for his team , and despite his 3 fumbles this game, he managed to rush over 100 yards along with fellow freshman, Jimmy Roberts. Coach Smith also holds some high confidence in Jones stating, “Jones is my guy. I’m sticking with him no matter what. No questions asked.”.
The Adelphi Panthers proved that they will be having a good year. They have a powerhouse in the back with their defense only allowing 16 points thus far this season. Also records are already being set by the star kicker, Dave Owens. This game he kicked a 44 yard field goal and last week he tied the record for most field goals in a game.
Let’s hope this winning streak continues for the Adelphi Panthers. However, next game they will be on the road to face the #3 nationally ranked SNHU. Adelphi definitely wants to keep this winning streak up, but they most definitely want to break this 4 year losing streak against SNHU. Cameron Brown seems excited for the match saying, “New Hampshire is a good team. We’ll definitely be the underdogs going in. I’m excited
about the challenge.”. Who knows what the future holds for the Panthers, but they are off to a great start.
